Below you’ll find listings of Sustainable Tourism Network members that offer such venues. These are places where your event can leave a lasting impression without leaving a heavy footprint. ARMAGH

Killeavy Castle Estate

Centred around a fully restored 19th-century Castle, Killeavy Castle Estate can cater for everything from small meetings to major conferences, private celebrations and weddings. Venues include the actual castle, a large pavilion and spaces in the modern hotel. 

From serving food from the Estate Gardens, or that is farmed on site or locally sourced, to showcasing local artwork and sourcing energy from solar panels, sustainability is at the heart of every decision at Killeavy. CAVAN

Cavan Adventure Centre

Offering more than just outdoor activities and team-bonding sessions, Cavan Adventure Centre has a great room for corporate get-togethers. It’s a fully IT equipped room and perfect for team meetings or training sessions. You can link in with other remote workers if necessary too. 

Sustainability measures include switching from oil heating to solar panels in the kayak changing facilities, using a wood pellet stove in their studio and installing low-flow showerheads. Future plans include rainwater harvesting and installing a water fountain to reduce plastic.

CLARE

The Armada

From weddings to conferences and meetings, the family-owned and run Armada is a B Corp-certified hotel offering top-notch venue offerings with sea views – and with sustainability at the core of the business. We can say this because we held our 2024 Inspiring Sustainable Tourism conference at this hotel. In advance of your booking, the Armada will encourage you to engage in  activities that make a positive impact, such as beach clean-ups, tree planting or by engaging in seagrass and sand dune restoration. A great range of spaces are available from small and intimate to the large Atlantic Suite with its huge sea views. 

Sustainability actions range from replacing single-use toiletries in bedrooms and switching to bio LPG in the kitchens to extensive native tree planting on Armada Farm and creating the Elevate Foundation, a fund to help the mental health and well-being of young people in Co Clare.

CORK

Gougane Barra 

With its spectacular mountain backdrop and lake, the tiny island oratory at Gougane Barra makes this one of the most idyllic locations in Ireland for a small church wedding. Civil ceremonies are possible in the family-run hotel too and receptions here can cater for up to 55 guests. 

Gougane Barrs is making great efforts to be sustainable too. Amongst other actions, the is aiming to be carbon neutral by 2030 and is committed to purchasing food and services from local suppliers within a 50km radius of the hotel.

Dunmore House Hotel

Situated on the Wild Atlantic Way in Clonakilty, West Cork, Dunmore House Hotel offers weddings that enjoy stunning coastal views. On the sustainability front, efforts include a kitchen garden that uses biodynamic practices (no pesticides or herbicides) to supply fruit and vegetables, chemical free cleaning products and four onsite electrical vehicle charging points – amongst other initiatives.

The Maritime Hotel

The four-star Maritime Hotel in Bantry, Co Cork, offers conferences, corporate meeting spaces and weddings. Its Windward Suite has floor-to-ceiling windows with a panoramic view over beautiful Bantry Bay. Civil Ceremonies, same sex marriages and humanist ceremonies are possible here, as well as conferences for up to 400 delegates.

The hotel is gold medal accredited (2024) with Green Hospitality. Sustainability actions include purified water served in reusable glass bottles, a compost system eliminating food waste and the whole hotel operating on energy-saving bulbs, and timing and motion sensors.

DOWN

Linen Mill Studios in Co Down offers a collection of venues for weddings, meetings, workshops, gala dinners and conferences that would thrill most fans of Game of Thrones. They include the Great Hall of Winterfell, Dragonstone and the King’s Landing. 

These low-carbon studios embrace a range of sustainability initiatives including a wildflower meadow, bird and bat boxes, rewilding areas, tree planting, composting and a herb garden.

DUBLIN

Airfield Estate

Airfield Estate is guided by the legacy of the pioneering Overend sisters who were passionately committed to creating and sharing a sustainable, beautiful and productive environment for all to enjoy. Today, the estate has a range of spaces for weddings, meetings and corporate team building events within an estate which encompasses gardens, orchards, a farm and facilities that deliver a sustainable ecosystem that produces food, manages waste, promotes biodiversity, conserves energy and tackles climate change.

Clontarf Castle

Clontarf Castle has seen generations of celebrations and events within the historic walls of its 12th Century Castle and more modern hotel. From conferences to traditional weddings in the variety of spaces, and relaxed BBQs and drinks on the terrace or landscaped gardens, this venue has a lot of options. 

Clients can be assured that the business undertakes a range of a solid sustainability actions which include environmentally friendly washing and cleaning products, sponsoring local sports teams, taking part in the All Ireland Pollinator Plan and the installation of a cooking oil containment system.

Crowne Plaza Blanchardstown

With a wide variety of spaces that cater for six to 600 people, the four-star Crowne Plaza Blanchardstown can host weddings, communions, conferences, balls, awards ceremonies and more. 

The hotel already has a zero-single-plastic-use policy. They have great ambitions for the coming years with actions planned including: to be carbon neutral by 2030; to be zero-waste-to-landfill policy by the end of 2026 and to develop an urban garden by 2025.

The Grand Hotel

With a large conference centre, the Grand Hotel in Malahide can host up to 450 delegates and also has adjacent exhibition space. It also has 13 additional meeting rooms and a 50-seat amphitheatre. The Grand also hosts many weddings – but never more than one a day. 

In terms of sustainability, the Grand has undertaken initiatives a monthly donation to promote the planting of native Irish trees, a shared vehicle scheme and providing four EV charging points. They also support the local Tidy Towns group and provide meeting rooms for some voluntary organisations.

Iveagh Garden Hotel

Located beside the serene Iveagh Gardens in central Dublin, the Iveagh Garden Hotel features two event spaces: the Gatsby-inspired Iveagh Suite accommodating up to 220 guests and Elle’s Suite, which opens onto a botanical garden terrace for more intimate gatherings. 

The Iveagh Garden Hotel operates on a renewable energy system that harnesses power from an underground river, resulting in a 78% reduction in energy usage and an 82% decrease in CO₂ emissions. They also recently installed 220 solar panels and all the lighting in the hotel is LED.

Luttrellstown Castle Resort

Luttrellstown Castle Resort in Dublin blends a historic 15th-century castle with 567 acres of parkland, and hosts weddings and events. Their spaces range from the historic castle to the alpine-style clubhouse. 

Luttrellstown has implemented a comprehensive sustainability strategy which includes: reducing delivery traffic by 25% and replacing single-use plastics with compostable or refillable alternatives. The estate supports biodiversity through wildflower meadows and native tree planting, while guests can enjoy nature trails and complimentary bikes.

Guinness Storehouse

Dublin’s Guinness Storehouse offers a distinctive setting for weddings and events, combining industrial charm with panoramic city views. Spanning seven floors, the venue features versatile spaces like the Fifth Floor and the Gravity Bar, which has 360-degree vistas of Dublin’s skyline. This venue can handle events from a 16-person sit-down meal to a 2000 person standing event. 

The Storehouse’s sustainability initiatives include a zero-waste-to-landfill policy, water refill stations for visitors and a biodigester which converts food waste into a nutrient-rich compost. They also champion inclusion and diversity, partnering with Learning for Life, St. Michael’s House, and Junior Achievement.

GALWAY

The Ardilaun Hotel

Formerly a country mansion, the family-owned, four-star Ardilaun Hotel has nine versatile meeting and conference spaces, and also hosts weddings. Their adjacent gardens are a popular choice for ceremonies.  

The Salthill hotel has 160 solar panels and the entire hotel operates on LED lighting. Plastic bottles have been removed from bedrooms saving approximately 65,000 bottles from going to waste in 2024. The hotel’s garden features  native plants such as hawthorn, foxgloves, alder, bluebells and holly, and the business has installed bird and bat boxes that provide safe habitats.

Brigit’s Garden

Brigit’s Garden offers a nature-inspired setting for weddings and events, deeply rooted in Celtic heritage. This not-for-profit venue features landscaped gardens, ideal for outdoor ceremonies. Indoor options like the Hazel Room, the Roundhouse and a garden marquee provide versatile spaces for receptions and gatherings for up to 60 people.

Brigit’s Garden generates some of its electricity using solar PV panels and also operates a biomass boiler for hot water and space heating. Sustainability is at the heart of Brigit’s Garden’s They also compost organic waste, maintain wildflower meadows to support local pollinators and run lots of education programmes around sustainability.

Slieve Aughty Centre 

The Slieve Aughty Centre offers an eco-conscious setting for weddings and events. Set on 17 acres of rugged land and surrounded by more than 2,000 acres of managed forestry, the centre provides can accommodate events for up to 80 guests. Choose from venues like the garden pergola or sustainably built ceremony room, or opt for outdoor events amidst the woodlands and artistic installations. 

Sustainability initiatives here include: collecting rainwater for use in the stables and garden, treating wastewater with a natural puraflo peat moss system, growing more than an acre of vegetables and fruits on site, using only eco-friendly cleaners and using no fertilisers or pesticides or on the land.

Abbeyglen Castle Hotel

Abbeyglen Castle is a four-star hotel in Connemara offering a historic setting for weddings and events. Set amidst private gardens with views of the Twelve Bens mountains, this venue is licensed for civil ceremonies and can host up to 140 people. 

The Abbeyglen has created its sustainability policy and aims to implement various initiatives in the coming years.

Ahascragh Distillery

Ahascragh Distillery offers the Clan Colla Function Room for corporate events, private parties and team-building experiences. With a capacity of up to 100 guests, a bar, projector and a garden space for photography or open-air receptions, it’s suited to many occasions and there’s the option to add live music.

Ahascragh Distillery is housed in a 19th Century mill that was restored with energy efficiency and renewable options in mind. For example, solar panels adorn the roof and the innovative thermal energy storage system saves in the region of 1690 tonnes of CO2 per year. Future plans include repurposing the old mill water wheel to leverage hydro power.

KERRY

Killarney Park Hotel

The five-star Killarney Park Hotel is one of the leaders in Irish hospitality when it comes to sustainability. This hotel was recently certified to gold standard with STN following a third-party independent audit. The hotel can cater for weddings, conferences and business events ranging from 10 to 120 people in a variety of spaces. 

On the sustainability front, the Killarney Park Hotel continues to inspire us. They have smart technology in guest rooms with eco-mode activation after three minutes. They also recently installed energy-efficient heat pumps and an air handling unit for the pool. Single use plastics have been drastically reduced thanks to refillable toiletries, reusable water bottles and straws and filtered water on site for guests. 

They also champion local food, partnering with Spillane’s Seafood, creating zero-waste cocktails with Boatyard & Drumshanbo spirits and have an on-site herb garden. They continue to work to reduce their food waste using AI-powered food cameras to track & minimise waste.

The Killarney Park also leads the charge when it comes to their staff and local community. Staff benefit from monthly mental health and wellbeing outings and accommodation is provided where necessary. 

The Killarney Park Hotel is a founding member of the Killarney Hotels Sustainability Group and are a signed partner of the Killarney Coffee Cup Project so no longer use disposable coffee cups.

The Brehon Hotel & Spa

The Brehon Hotel & Spa in Killarney offers a setting for weddings, conferences and events overlooking Killarney National Park.  Weddings from 50 to 220 guests are catered for and the lawn is a nice choice for sunny days. For meetings and conferences they can accommodate from two to 500 delegates in four modern meeting rooms. Outdoor dining for summer parties and BBQs is also available. 

The Brehon measures and manages their measures waste, energy and water on a monthly basis to identify areas that can be improved. They provide filtered water in bedrooms via refillable glass bottles, saving an estimated 64,000 plastic bottles annually. They have transitioned from gas boilers to electric air-to-water heat pumps to heat the hotel. They are a signed partner of the Killarney Coffee Cup Project so no longer use disposable coffee cups. They are also members of the Killarney Hotels Sustainability Group.

Gleneagle

The Gleneagle in Killarney is known as a location for meetings and conferences and can cater for big and small events at its 5 MoD Suites and its collection of meeting rooms and breakout spaces. It also hosts weddings big and small. 

The Gleneagle aims to reduce, reuse and recycle to minimise waste.

Of note: Member of STN. Great Place to Work Certified. Accredited by the European Network for Accessible Tourism (ENAT) and have achieved ISO 14001 standard for Environmental Management Systems.

 

KILKENNY

Newpark Hotel Kilkenny 

Located just outside Kilkenny city and within  25 acres of parkland, Newpark Hotel Kilkenny caters for weddings, events and conferences with a variety of offerings. They can cater for 120 to 320 guests in their ballroom and smaller weddings are catered for too. For conferences and business events, four spacious conference rooms can accommodate up to 700 delegates. For smaller meetings, there are five boardrooms and meeting suites accommodating 10–30 people.

A wide range of sustainability initiatives include: a BMS that monitors and optimises heating, ventilation and air conditioning; a combined heat and power (CHP) unit provides efficient heating for both the hotel and swimming pool; LED lights throughout the hotel. They also sponsor local sports teams; provide nature walks via the Kids’ Club and have wildflower areas on the grounds.

LAOIS

Ballintubbert House and Gardens

With is restored 18th‑century Georgian manor set on 14 acres of gardens, Ballintubbert House and Gardens caters for weddings, corporate retreats, festivals and private celebrations. If offers spaces like the Fountain Garden, Mirrored Canal, orchard aisles and the Tabernacle for up to 100 guests, and a Grand Pavilion for up to 200. Marquees for events up to 700 people are also possible. 

Corporate event offerings include everything from yoga to night walks in the woodland and forest bathing to mindfulness. 

Ballintubbert’s catering focuses on hyper‑local, seasonal, organic fare, harvested from their herb garden and nearby Laois producers. Other initiatives include: a bio‑gas heating system and use of green electricity; zero‑waste and composting; rainwater harvesting; and use of chemical‑free cleaning and toiletries. Biodiversity is also central to Ireland’s first organically certified ornamental garden thanks to hand‑weeding, bee‑friendly zones and planting 10 trees for every corporate group hosted.

LEITRIM 

Drumhierney Woodland Hideaway

Drumhierny Woodland Hideaway provides the ideal wedding, events or team bonding venue location for lovers of nature in its Black Barn.

Sustainability measures include low-flow shower heads, taps and toilets, as well as their ‘Plant a Tree’ Campaign where they plant one tree for each direct booking received.  Timber harvested from the estate is re-used in bespoke furniture in their lodges and ‘The Cedaroo’ outdoor seating and relaxation area.

MEATH 

The Johnstown Estate

This 18th Century, four-star, independently-owned rural hotel and spa offers a variety of flexible spaces for weddings, conferences and events at their Ford Suites. They can cater from small events right up to those for 1,200 people. The venues are surrounded by 120 acres of woodland and countryside which are also used for team-building events and BBQs.

Sustainability initiatives include using 100% green energy and tracking waste weekly with a goal of reducing waste going to landfill. Currently 61% of waste is diverted from landfill. Outdoor actions include increasing biodiversity-friendly planting and creating an orchard. The Johnstown Estate has also increased our vegetarian offerings with the goal of offering a 50:50 ratio to our customers.

CityNorth Hotel & Conference Centre

CityNorth Hotel & Conference Centre in County Meath offers a versatile setting for weddings and events of all sizes. The hotel provides a range of event spaces, including the grand ballroom accommodating up to 450 guests, and more intimate suites which can host up to 70 guests. Additionally, the CityNorth Hotel is an approved venue for civil ceremonies.

When it comes to sustainability, the hotel has a target of 45% reduction in CO2 emmissions by the end of 2030 and in recent times they have achieved a reduction 68CO2-e.

MONAGHAN 

Castle Leslie Estate

Castle Leslie Estate is situated on 1,000 acres of undulating countryside featuring ancient woodland and lakes. They cater for weddings, celebrations, meetings, conferences and team building events.  Choose between the castle, the more traditional Lodge facilities, the quiet of the Old Stable Mews, or the larger Pavilion marquee overlooking Glaslough Lake. The venue can cater for groups ranging from two to 280. Outdoor BBQs are also an option and onsite activities include laser clays, archery and falconry. 

Electricity consumed here is certified 100% green. The estate also has a biodigester to turn up to 10 tonnes of  equine and food waste into fertile compost. In 2025, they replaced their hybrid estate vehicle with a fully electric vehicle and also moved all other diesel-using estate vehicles to HVO biodiesel. Petrol lawnmowers on large parts of the estate gardens have been replaced with electric robot ones. Castle Leslie also provides allotments on the estate for the local community. 

These are just a few of Castle Leslie’s actions and their in-depth sustainability policy also details a lot of ambition for the coming years.

WICKLOW

Beyond the Trees Avondale

Beyond the Trees Avondale, in Avondale Forest Park, opened it’s exciting new visitor experience, which features a tree-top walk and a giant slide – in July 2022. 

The venue also offers two spaces for corporate events and gatherings: The Meeting House (catering for 50 people) and the Pavilion (catering for 80 people).

Some of the sustainability actions that have been taken to date include: provision of water refill stations, promotion of the Leave No Trace principles, supporting biodiversity, providing access for all visitors to the tree-top walk, rainwater harvesting, using Irish-grown timber in building materials, solar PV, electric car charging points and air to water heat pumps to heat the buildings.

Powerscourt House and Gardens

With the magnificent backdrop of Powerscourt’s award winning gardens and the Sugar Loaf Mountain, Powerscourt House and Gardens also offers a hugely attractive wedding venue. The marble entrance hall or the rose garden are the suggested spots for ceremonies and up to 180 guests can be catered for in the double-height ballroom.

Powerscourt House and Gardens are certified by the Sustainable Tourism Network to silver level and has undertaken many sustainability initiatives including: an integrated energy management system, a waste reduction plan and biodiversity initiatives such as wildflower meadows, tree planting and a bee sanctuary at the walled gardens. The long-term mission at Powerscourt Estate is to have Net Zero operating emissions by 2030 (Scope 1 & 2).
